Trick or Treat?

The Halloween season has arrived again this year.

The summer heat feels like a distant memory, and the autumn air has fully settled in at Henn na Hotel Tokyo Hamamatsucho.

The two front desk robots are also dressed up as little devils to welcome our guests.

Halloween, which gradually took root in Japan starting in the 1970s, originally stems from the Celtic harvest festival, but according to the calendar, October 31 is the time when the boundary between the spirit world and the living world becomes thin.

It was believed that evil spirits would come along with the messengers, and the origin of wearing costumes is said to be from wearing masks to avoid being recognized as human.

Also, it is said that the phrase "Trick or Treat" (give me a treat or I'll play a trick) originated from the tradition of offering treats (sweets) to the evil spirits and monsters that returned to the living world on this night in order to send them away.

Delving deeper into history might make even small events more enjoyable.
